Donousa, a small guide

by Mr. Z

We’re not going to go crazy. We’ll figure out where we can have fun, above all quietly, and arrange it. Holidays planning will always be sacred and we all agree in that. Don’t wait too long, though. The solution is one and simple. This year the holidays should be safe. So do a review where you’re used to having a good time and just go!

This place for me will always be Donousa. The most magical of the islets of the cluster of small Cyclades.

What do you need to have a good time after all? Two beautiful beaches, two decent taverns, calm atmospheric routes and fantastic climate. There’s everything here, as long as it’s supposed to be. Starting from the beach of Chora, Korona and Skantzoheiros for breakfast and coffee. At noon the follow-up belongs to the beach of Kedros which is in the middle of the island, 10 minutes walk from Chora. Beach with excellent waters and canteen for food. The place we spent 3 unforgettable summers with the Yupiyaya Festival  where several DJs and bands paraded in 3 fantastic afternoon-nights with music and dancing. The perfect place for camping and semi-free camping.

It’s getting late and it’s time for the burgers of Thymios in “Kalotaritissa”!  Overlooking the sea and the most beautiful burgers on the planet in the small café that was once a meeting place for captains who fed the island by water. The most impressive dishes are (to say this) by Michael’s Daughter in “Mersini” with the fantastic view above the sea and the many cats around. The ideal lunch after the walk in the wild “Livadi” for a bath that is below and you will need courage to approach!

I pretty much told you everything. But what I didn’t emphasize is the aura of the small and beautiful Donousa.

Things are calm and in the right doses and the most important thing is that the place makes you operate in its rhythms. Just the way it’s going to take when you decide to visit it. Music to the ears for the tracks, don’t forget. Oh, and be aware,  no gas station and just an ATM.  AMEN!
