Lefkada, apart from magnificent beaches, idyllic landscapes, unforgettable sunsets and infinite greenery, has developed its bar scene to a superlative level over the past few years! All the bars of the island have an open collaboration with famous cocktail bars of Athens and have developed their cocktail lists, making signature cocktails or re-performing all time classic cocktails in their own special way!
Lefkada, however, is also famous for its local products, both in the field of nutrition and in alcoholic beverages, which are produced with the taste of local flavors and aromas!
We chose Joy Bar’s head bartender, Filimon Mylonas, to prepare for us, through his experience, a cocktail of purely local products that has nothing less than Lefkada flavor!!
Here’s the recipe and philosophy!
As a base, we use Tsipouro of Karya (a spirit sometimes flavoured with aniseed and other herbs) , quite mild, combined with homemade apricot jam, Rosoli* , Soumada foam** , lemon and mandola crumble.
It’s a complete cocktail that affects the whole palate, and its balance wins your heart! The taste of bitter almond is the first thing that reaches your palate, while next the liqueur along with the jam leads you to more sweet paths.
Yet, Tsipouro and lemon emerge to bring you back to more acidic flavors and leave you a Greek touch of flavor and scent! In the end, the overall result is sweet to sour and sweet, while the mandola crumbs say farewell to you ideally! Summer … August to September!
- Tsipouro (without anise) 40 ml
- Rosoli 20 ml
- 10 ml of lemon
- Soumada Foam
- Mandola crumbs
* Rosoli is a liqueur that has its roots back in Venetian rule and it was traditionally used as a treat for weddings. It is prepared with 12 different spices and orange flavors.
** Soumada is a cool, bitter almond-flavored soft drink with a special aroma, which is served in the island cafe’ along with a rusk and it is ideal for the hot summer months!
